Early Life and College Career

Owens was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and played high-school football at Christian Brothers College High School before enrolling at Missouri Western State University, a Division II programme. As a defensive back for the Griffons he developed into one of the team’s best players, earning all-conference honours, but Division II prospects rarely hear their names called on draft weekend — and Owens didn’t either, entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2018.

The Long Road: Cardinals, Texans and Packers

The Arizona Cardinals signed Owens after the 2018 draft, but a knee injury ended his rookie season before it began. He rebuilt his career with the Houston Texans from 2019, spending years shuttling between the practice squad and the active roster before finally becoming a starter in 2021 and recording his first interception and fumble recovery. In 2023 he joined the Green Bay Packers, playing every game and memorably returning a fumble for a touchdown against Detroit on Thanksgiving Day — the first score of his career.

His Houston breakthrough is the part of the story coaches love to tell: called up for his first career start in December 2021, Owens intercepted Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence and recovered a fumble in the same game, announcing himself after three years of near-invisibility. Safeties coach after coach has described the same qualities — film study, tackling reliability and special-teams effort — the unglamorous virtues that keep a player employed in a league that discards most undrafted defensive backs within two seasons. Owens has now lasted the better part of a decade.

Chicago Bears Chapter

In March 2024 Owens signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears, adding veteran depth and special-teams value to the secondary. The move also put one of sport’s most famous couples in a new city: while Biles prepared for her record-breaking Paris Olympics that summer, Owens was excused from part of training camp to fly to Paris and watch her win three more gold medals — a storyline that endeared him to fans well outside the NFL audience.

Marriage to Simone Biles

Owens met Biles on the celebrity dating app Raya in March 2020, just as lockdowns began — by his own admission he did not realise at first just how famous she was, which Biles has said she liked. They announced their engagement in February 2022, married in a Houston courthouse ceremony in April 2023, and celebrated weeks later with a larger wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The couple frequently support each other publicly, from NFL sidelines to Olympic arenas.

Jonathan Owens Net Worth

Owens’ net worth is commonly estimated at around $2 million, accumulated the hard way: minimum-salary and practice-squad contracts early on, then progressively better deals with Houston, Green Bay and Chicago, including his reported two-year Bears contract worth about $4.75 million. As with all such figures, published estimates are unofficial and based on reported contract data.

Personal Life

Away from football, Owens and Biles have been building a custom home in Texas and share their life with their French bulldogs, who have their own social media following. Owens is known for his close relationship with his mother and his St. Louis roots, and he and Biles have spoken about wanting a family once their athletic careers allow — two elite athletes carefully timing ordinary life around extraordinary schedules.
